Building an assessment architecture prior to instruction provides a plan to determine success at the end of a unit, monitor instruction, and provide strategic formative feedback from teachers, peers, and self-reflection. Although the blueprint may change, intentionally mapping out assessment design leverages backwards design, alignment between intended outcomes and evidence of learning, and sets up a structure for effective, differentiated lesson sequences.
Purpose: This working session provides instruction, includes practice, and supports teaching teams as they draft a well-aligned assessment architecture that provides a template for current and future planning.
Focus: Understand the purpose and process of building an assessment architecture. Draft the blueprint design for an instructional unit’s assessment architecture.
